Gladstone sits at the confluence of the Clackamas and Willamette rivers, a geographic fact that shapes the city more than anything else. Meldrum Bar Park stretches along the Willamette — a long gravel bar with boat launches, grassy flats, and unobstructed river views that residents of much pricier neighborhoods would pay a premium to access. The Clackamas River is minutes away in the other direction. At roughly 12,000 people, Gladstone is small enough that you recognize faces at the Fred Meyer on McLoughlin.
The housing stock is mostly 1950s through 1970s — single-story ranches, split-levels, and a few two-story colonials on larger lots. The Gladstone School District is compact: one high school, one middle school, and two elementaries. That size means staff knows students. The city has its own parks system with Meldrum Bar as the centerpiece, plus smaller neighborhood parks scattered through the residential grid. Commuting north to Portland takes 30 to 40 minutes via I-205 or McLoughlin Blvd depending on traffic — Oregon City sits right to the south along the same corridor.

McLoughlin Blvd through the city edge is commercial strip the same as it is everywhere along that corridor.
